My inspiration for this piece is the beautiful and mysterious last line of John Cheever's short story "The Country Husband": “Then it is dark; it is a night where kings in golden suits ride elephants over the mountains.”
Hi Joan, Your artwork is exceptional I have visited your blog and everything I've seen I liked. unfortunately I wanted to be your follower, but could not. congratulations for your art!
Thanks, Hedwig. It is supposed to be evening. I've been playing around with a limited palette and I liked the peach colored sky with the browns and greys.
Lovely tranquil (as Betsy said) scene. I love the colours, clouds and the way the negative shapes between the elephant's legs replicate the shapes of the mountains.
This is a wonderful illustration. I just love the whole atmosphere of it...and the colors of the elephant are sublime!
